| DuPont™ Softesse® FAQs |

Why did DuPont change the name from Sontara® to Softesse®?
More than 25 years ago, DuPont set a new standard of protection, convenience and comfort for the medical industry by introducing a technologically advanced, single-use nonwoven fabric for gowns and drapes. Until recently, this innovative fabric was called Sontara®. It has been renamed DuPontTM Softesse® medical fabric, a name that better describes this comfortably soft fabric.

Is the Softesse® fabric being sold today the same as the original fabric that was introduced more than 25 years ago?
Over the past 25 years, we have made continuous improvements to our spunlaced technology. The Softesse® fabric being sold today is the newest generation of that technology.

I am working on a development and I would like to try Softesse® in this application; however, I could not handle a commercial size roll. Do you offer sample rolls?
Yes. We have sample rolls in various widths and styles. Please use our e-mail link to provide us with information about your project. We will then contact you to discuss how we can help.

Can I order gowns and drapes made of Softesse® directly from DuPont Medical Fabrics?
No. DuPont Medical Fabrics does not manufacture gowns and drapes. We supply our family of innovative fabrics to converters such as Medline Industries and Mölnlycke Healthcare to name a few. Click here for a complete list of where to buy gowns and drapes made of DuPont fabrics.

Are there any trade shows where I can see—and feel—DuPontTM Softesse® medical fabric?
Yes. Please click here to see our recent trade show appearances and get a schedule of upcoming events.

When you’re protected and comfortable in the O.R., you’re in control—able to focus on what you’re doing.
